We have more exciting Disney park news to share with you! This week’s announcements include the 2020 International Flower and Garden Festival dates, new menu items coming to both U.S. parks, a Disney Parks Blog live stream of Epcot’s new show, and more! Here’s the latest Disney parks news for September 22–28, 2019:
2020 Flower and Garden Festival Dates Announced
Disney World has announced dates for the International Flower and Garden Festival that takes place in Epcot each year. This 90-day festival will take place from March 4–June 1, 2020 this time around, and will once again feature character-themed topiaries, special food booths, and the Garden Rocks Concert Series. New this year will be the Remy topiary in the France Pavilion in celebration of the new Ratatouille ride coming to Epcot next year. This is one of our favorite events at Walt Disney World, and we have a detailed guide to this past year’s festival that took place from March 6–June 3, 2019. Watch for a new detailed guide to the 2020 Flower and Garden Festival to come in the future on our website once more festival details are announced!
Watch Epcot’s New Nighttime Show Live on October 1, 2019
The new Epcot Forever nighttime show will replace the long-running IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth on October 1, 2019, and Disney Parks LIVE has announced that they will live stream its first performance. You can find the details on how and when to watch this live stream on the Disney Parks Blog website.
New Plant-Based Menu Items Coming to Both Walt Disney World and Disneyland
Both Disney World and Disneyland will soon be getting a vast selection of plant-based food options at their major quick service and table service restaurants. According to Disney Parks Blog, these food options will be made without any animal meat, dairy, eggs, or honey, and will be easily identified on every menu by a green leaf icon. Since the announcement points out that these options will be available at every “major” quick service and table service restaurant in the U. S. parks, it would seem that there will be a handful of restaurants that do not offer these plant-based options. However, given that there will be “hundreds” of new plant-based menu items, we are sure that it will now be much easier to find more vegetarian and vegan options throughout the parks!
New Mickey Shorts Theater Coming to Hollywood Studios
Disney World is getting ready for the 2020 grand opening of Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway ride by adding a “Mickey Shorts Theater” to Hollywood Studios sometime in the upcoming spring season. Not many details were given in the Disney Parks Blog announcement, but the general consensus is that the current “Path of the Jedi” theater will be the new home for these Mickey Shorts, replacing the Star Wars film.
Both Disney World and Disneyland have announced new special ticket and resort offers for U.S. Military Members and their families.
Walt Disney World ticket offerings include four, five, and six-day options (learn more about these offers on Disney’s website), while their special resort offers currently include select nights from January 1–April 4, 2020 and April 19–December 18, 2020 (for more details, visit their resort offers page).
Disneyland’s current special ticket offers for military personnel include three and four-day ticket options (see details here), and their resort offers are for select nights from January 1–December 19, 2020 (more details can be found on the Disneyland website).
New Disney Skyliner Merchandise Released
Brand new merchandise has been released just in time for the grand opening of the Disney Skyliner on September 29, 2020. This new collection features t-shirts, mugs, ornaments, pins, and more all designed around Disney’s newest transportation system. One of my (Em’s) personal favorites from this collection is the skyliner-themed MagicBand, which is a simple white design with red and blue skyliner artwork on the band.
A New Orange Bird Wall Makes Its Debut at Disney Springs
A brand new wall featuring fan favorite character Orange Bird has been unveiled at Disney Springs! This cute little bird has been making more appearances all around the Walt Disney World Resort lately, and we love this new addition! It is sure to be another great photo spot for fans of Orange Bird, just like this wall (see below) at the World of Disney store that we found on our last trip!
The Orlando Invitational College Basketball Tournament Tickets Are Now on Sale
This three-day college basketball tournament is scheduled to take place at ESPN Wide World of Sports n November 28–December 1, 2019. Tickets are now on sale, and since Disney Parks Blog is calling it “one of the best early-season college basketball tournaments”, you may want to keep these dates in mind if you are hoping to avoid larger crowds during your vacation since this event will probably draw more people into Walt Disney World and (most likely) the Value resorts.
