The MCU has changed the movie game – literally. Disney broke the news this morning that pre-sale tickets are now available for Avengers: Endgame… and then Endgame broke the internet ticket sale sites.
News and entertainment sites across the web are reporting that U.S. ticket sale websites have been experiencing issues due to heavy site traffic caused by Endgame pre-sales, and AMC’s website crashed completely. Marvel fans everywhere are hoping to ensure that they will get to see Endgame in theaters before tickets sell out, and a complete ticket sell out (at least for opening day) looks very likely at this point.
Avengers: Endgame has already set the first-day pre-sale record on Atom Tickets, and it is being reported that Endgame has already sold 4 times as many tickets as DC’s Aquaman (Variety.com) did last year. Fandango has also announced that Endgame has topped the list of pre-sale tickets on their website, followed by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and finally Avengers: Endgame to round out the top five (Fandango Facebook). These seem to be pretty good indicators that Disney really is the reigning champion of the box office and has been for a long time now, especially considering that they own and produced all three of the top pre-selling Star Wars movies and both Avengers movies on Fandango alone.
Endgame also seems to be shattering records for Regal Cinemas, as Deadline.com is reporting that the film has already doubled an entire week’s worth of Regal’s sales for Infinity War, the third Avengers movie and the precursor to Endgame, which released in theaters last April.
With only 24 days to go until Endgame releases, and not to mention that the first day for pre-sales isn’t even over yet, it’s hard to imagine just how big the fourth Avengers film will be in the world of movies once all is said and done. If it keeps up the same pace, and no doubt it will, then there’s no telling how many more records will be shattered by the time it premieres on April 26 – and probably long after.
